Schizophrenia And Art

I am a 44 year old woman who has been schizophrenic since the age of 19. I find that making art is the best way to spend the short, precious hours of peak concentration I have in the morning. I have no other job other than being an artist. Because of my illness, I've been unable to do more than one semester of art school, so I consider myself self-taught. When I make art after two or three hours I become exhausted and have to stop no matter how much I wish to go on. Art gives me the chance to exercise my mind and push myself to the utmost of my capabilities. Making art is the way I can be the most that I can be.
